It's a Hockey and knitting night

Do you knit or crochet in public? I usually knit on a car ride or at the knit meetup held in Panera Bread, but never at a Hockey game. There is only one person I've seen or heard of that does this...She is called "The Knitting Lady".

I've seen her several times on TV (seriously I pause the game to take a photo) and from afar at last weeks Hockey game we went to. People probably thought there was something wrong with me when I cheered for her every time she was shown on the jumbotron. The next Pittsburgh game she'll be at is Feb. 11th. Definitely not missing my chance to meet her then. Maybe I'll bring my knitting with me :)

Tonight Devin and I are going to see the Pittsburgh Penguins vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Let's go Pens! :)

Friday Finds ~ Pillows!

Pillows are one thing I love having in a living area. There's something about them that make a room feel cozy and complete. We currently don't have any on our bare couches and I've been on the look out for some. Here are some of my favorites for today's Friday Finds:

This one reminds me of Pixar's For the Birds

Big snowy owl knit pattern ~ cozy and big enough to be a pillow :)

Tutorial: Sproket Pillows ~ I love how bright these are

Telepathic Kitten

Seems like everyone I know has a cat, which makes it difficult for me to make a visit to their house -- I'm allergic - asthma, itchy eyes, runny nose :: sigh :: not fun! I've never had the joy of snuggling one. So I decided to create my own hypoallergenic kitten. I found the adorable Telepathic Kitten Amigurumi Plush Toy pattern on Ravelry (can also be found on Etsy). It'll look like the kitten on the right except in grey.

The pattern is very easy to follow. If you're a beginner, don't be discouraged by the instruction to 'wt' (wrap and turn/short rows). There are plenty of how to videos online. Definitely practice before starting this pattern. Yay! I can't wait to finish :D I'll post photos.

Join in and be creative!

I'm so happy I've stumbled upon this blog post by Joy the Baker today - Spiced Almond Steamers. I usually make hot chocolate after dinner, but that doesn't always agree with me since I have a dairy allergy - it's so tasty though! I have everything to make this yummy recipe except cardamom. I'll probably use Chai spice tea instead.

If you haven't yet, sign up for Nerd Wars. I'm hoping to get on Team Tardis (Dr. Who). My other choices are 1-UP (gaming) and Macabre (Horror). Sign-ups for Tournament 4 close January 26th at midnight. This will be my first time. I'm beginning to get antsy! I really can't wait to meet other crafters and see all of their creative projects.

Tonight I am going to finish up the Special Olympics Scarf I've been knitting. Their website has free patterns to choose from. I decided on a simple cable knit pattern I found on Ravelry. Pennsylvania's goal is to have approximately 1,746 scarves and has received 753 so far. Anyone else making scarves?

The weather here has been wonky lately. It'll go from freezing cold and
snowy to being in the 50's (fahrenheit) and rainy/sunny. The sun broke out from the clouds earlier so I decided to take Dutchess Doxie for a mini walk. Five minutes later a sun shower! She absolutely hates the rain and started running for the house :)  We got to see a beautiful double rainbow! How is the weather where you are?

Yay, for free printables!

Valentine's Day is sneaking up on us! Stores are stocked with fluffy plushies, sweets and hearts galore. I absolutely love this holiday. It's just so cheerful to me. I want to send some Valentines out to friends but I really dislike going to the store to buy cards, especially when the weather isn't great and it takes me forever to find the perfect one. So, I save the hassle and make them instead - a lot more fun!

I would like to share with you, 'Hello! I love you!'. Cute little envelope love, aw :)
In Microsoft Word I changed the orientation to 'Landscape', made a 1x1 table, and inserted my image into each cell.

I put a border around my image for easy cutting (watch your fingers!!) and printed it out on 11 x 8.5" paper.

To make this stationery even cuter I used my lace punch on the corners.

These printables aren't just for Valentine's Day. They'd be great to send to someone who needs cheering up or to let someone know how you really feel ;)

Mission beyond accomplished!

On Monday, I took a venture out to the Salvation Army to see if I could find a crock-pot. I've been wanting one for a while to use for dyeing yarn. I know I can just buy one new but I really wanted a vintage one. I've never been to a Salvation Army before. When I walked in the entrance I was immediately sucked into all the lovely knit items on display. I found white glittery cable knit kid leg warmers - $1.99 and a vintage Black Poppy clutch - $1.99. The leg warmers will work amazingly as wrist warmers for the cold crafting days and I couldn't pass up the beautiful clutch with two fortunes the previous owner left inside.
How cool is that!
After gazing at the slew of accessories I moved onto the first trinket filled table. There I saw a pot for $5.99 that could work if I couldn't find a crock-pot - and it's vintage! It comes with a strainer and the pattern is mesmerizing.
I came to the last table in the store and still no crock-pot. I mean I wasn't expecting to find a vintage crock-pot at the first thrift shop I went to, but sure enough I did! -$7.99. Same one my Mom used to have!
What a perfect pair =D
I also picked up two white frames for $4 that you'll see in a later post, and a big bag of craft supplies for $5 - zipper, spools of thread, tons of green & brown embroidery floss, two balls of yarn, and seam binding. Yup! I definitely had a good time and so happy I found my perfect pots! Yay!
